Best Dash Cams for the Ram 1500 (2013–2027)

Short answer: for a factory-looking dash cam in a Ram, get the FitCamX built for your truck's generation — it replaces the cover behind your rearview mirror, records 4K, and hides every wire. The standard 4K front-only unit ($189) is the best value; the new STARVIS 2 version ($289) is the upgrade if you drive a lot at night or want real parking surveillance. The catch: 2013–2018 and 2019–2024 trucks each come in more than one mirror-cover shape, and ordering the wrong one means a return. This guide shows you how to tell them apart in under a minute.

Our verdict · Best Overall for the Ram 1500
8.5
/ 10 SCORE

All three Ram fitments use the same FitCamX camera platform — Novatek chip, f/1.6 lens, 4K/30fps front, 160° front and 140° rear field of view — at the same price. The buying decision is really two questions: which cover does your truck have (see the identification steps), and standard or STARVIS 2. For most owners, the standard 4K front-only at $189 is the pick; the 2019–2024 listing alone has 156 reviews averaging 4.83 stars.

Heavy-duty owners, note the coverage: the 2013–2018 and 2019–2024 listings name the 2500 and 3500, but the 2025–2027 listing names only Ram 1500 trims. If you drive a 2025 or newer 2500/3500, confirm with FitCamX before ordering.

How to Identify Your Mirror Cover

2019–2024: Model A, B or C

Look up at the plastic housing that surrounds the base of your rearview mirror, where it meets the headliner and windshield. FitCamX's own identification photos separate the three like this:

If B versus C is hard to judge from the driver's seat, take a photo from below — you'll be sending one to FitCamX anyway.

2013–2018: HD2-6072 or HD2-6091

Check the end of the mirror cover for a small rectangular hole. A hole means HD2-6072; no hole means HD2-6091. That's the only difference, and it's the check FitCamX's listing asks you to make.

2025–2027: nothing to check

The current-generation Ram 1500 has a single fitment (HD2-D4120), listed for every trim from Tradesman to RHO.

Then send the photo when FitCamX asks

These cameras are matched to your truck, so FitCamX emails you after purchase to confirm your model and mirror cover and asks for a photo. They ship within 3 days of that confirmation. Their listing warns that skipping the photo can delay shipping or send a model that doesn't fit. One 2019–2024 owner noted that FitCamX support contacted them before shipping to make sure they'd ordered the right one.

Check that your truck has an auto-dimming mirror

The standard FitCamX Ram units take power from the auto-dimming rearview mirror connection. If your Ram has a basic manual mirror, it may not have the connector the camera relies on — confirm with FitCamX before ordering. This is the same check that matters on the Ford F-150.

The Three Ram Fitments

All three run the same standard FitCamX camera platform, so they share the 8.5 score we gave FitCamX in our main dash cam roundup. Our evaluation is based on FitCamX's published specifications, identification guides and policies, the 205 customer reviews across the three standard Ram listings, and comparison against the universal-mount cameras in our main guide. The STARVIS 2 versions launched in September 2026 and have no owner reviews yet. We have not personally installed a Ram unit.

From$189

This is FitCamX's most-reviewed Ram listing by a wide margin, covering the 5th-gen Ram 1500 and the 2500/3500 heavy-duty trucks from the same years. The camera replaces the cover around your mirror base with a housing shaped like the original, records 2160p at 30fps through an f/1.6 lens, locks footage when its G-sensor detects a collision, and loop-records on cards up to 256GB. Clips come off over WiFi to the FitCamX app on iOS or Android.

Owner reports on install time are strikingly short — one owner says they installed front and rear cameras in five minutes, and another is on their second FitCamX after using one in a previous truck. The work that remains is the one every owner of these trucks has to do first: identifying Model A, B or C correctly.

Pros

  • Largest owner base of any Ram fitment: 156 reviews, 4.83★
  • Covers 1500, 2500 and 3500 from the same years
  • Plug-to-plug power from the auto-dimming mirror — no A-pillar wiring

Cons

  • Three cover shapes — Model B and C are easy to confuse
  • Needs an auto-dimming mirror for power
  • Parking mode needs a separate hardwired install

The easiest Ram to buy for: one fitment covers every 2025–2027 Ram 1500 trim FitCamX lists — Tradesman, Bighorn, Rebel, Laramie, Limited, Longhorn, Tungsten and RHO — so there's no cover to decode. It also carries the highest owner rating of the three at 4.89 stars.

Owner reports are the most detailed here. A 2025 Rebel G/T owner who has installed FitCamX units in other vehicles put this install at about 30 minutes and called it the best version they've used; another owner says it took under 10 minutes and they spent longer downloading the app. A 2026 Rebel owner running front and rear cameras said the trim pieces matched the truck and the video is very good day and night. Remember the auto-dimming mirror requirement if your truck is a base trim.

Pros

  • Single fitment for all listed trims — no identification step
  • Highest owner rating of the three: 4.89★ (38 reviews)
  • Owners report 10–30 minute installs

Cons

  • Listing names Ram 1500 only — HD owners should confirm fit
  • Needs an auto-dimming mirror for power

Owners of a 4th-gen Ram get the same 4K camera as the newest trucks, at the same price, across the widest range of models — 1500 through 4500. The one decision is the hole check on your mirror cover: hole means HD2-6072, no hole means HD2-6091.

This listing has the smallest review base and the lowest average of the three, though still 4.64 stars. Owners praise easy front installation and the app; one noted that routing the additional rear-camera cable was the hard part. If you're adding the rear camera to an older truck, budget time or an installer for that cable run.

Pros

  • Covers Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 and 4500
  • Same 4K camera and price as the newest fitments
  • Simple hole / no-hole identification

Cons

  • Smallest review base (11) and lowest rating of the three
  • Rear cable routing is the hardest part of the install

Standard or STARVIS 2?

What the extra $100 buys

Every Ram fitment is now sold in two versions. The standard unit uses a Novatek chip and f/1.6 lens for 4K front video, with built-in WiFi. The STARVIS 2 unit swaps in a Sony IMX678 sensor (a large 1/1.8" sensor built for low light), adds HDR on both front and rear cameras to keep license plates from washing out under headlights, and uses 5.8GHz WiFi — FitCamX quotes 8–10 MB/s downloads, versus 2–3 MB/s for 2.4GHz WiFi. It's rated for -4°F to 158°F.

The STARVIS 2 version also has a more capable parking mode: time-lapse recording at 1 frame per second that switches to full 30fps on impact, or motion detection. Like the standard unit's parking mode, it needs a fuse-box hardwire cable purchased separately.

Our read

Standard 4K front-only ($189) is the best value for most Ram owners — it.s the version with more than 200 owner reviews behind it. Choose STARVIS 2 ($289 front, $369 with 2K rear) if you drive a lot at night, park on the street and plan to hardwire for parking mode, or want faster clip downloads. Two cautions: the STARVIS 2 versions are brand-new with no owner reviews yet, and FitCamX notes some older phones can't connect to 5GHz WiFi.

Standard configurations

The standard units come in three configurations: 4K front-only ($189, 64GB card), 1440p front + 1080p rear ($219, 64GB), and 4K front + 1080p rear ($269, 128GB). If you want a rear camera, the extra $50 for the 4K dual keeps full resolution on the angle that reads plates. The rear camera plugs into the front unit, so it doesn't need its own power source.

Shipping and warranty

After the photo confirmation, FitCamX ships within 3 days and quotes 8–12 working days for standard shipping, though one owner reported delivery in three days. FitCamX's policy covers manufacturing defects for 12 months from purchase, with a free replacement and FitCamX paying the freight; the warranty ends if you sell or transfer the camera.

What if you'd rather not deal with fitment at all?

If identifying your cover or checking your mirror type sounds like more project than you want, a universal-mount camera fits any truck and moves with you — you give up the factory look. Our main dash cam guide covers the strongest universal options, including mirror-mounted and budget 4K picks.

Ram 1500 Dash Cam FAQ

How do I know if my 2019–2024 Ram needs Model A, B or C?
Look at the plastic cover around your mirror base. Model A is smooth with no vent slats or mesh grille. Models B and C both have vent slats and a mesh grille; on Model B the edge meeting the headliner is straight, while on Model C both edges are curved. FitCamX also confirms your cover from a photo before shipping.
What's the difference between HD2-6072 and HD2-6091?
Both fit 2013–2018 Ram trucks. Check the end of your mirror cover for a small rectangular hole: a hole means HD2-6072, no hole means HD2-6091.
Does it fit the Ram 2500 and 3500?
For 2013–2018 and 2019–2024 trucks, yes — those listings name the 2500 and 3500 (and the 4500 for 2013–2018). The 2025–2027 listing names only Ram 1500 trims, so confirm with FitCamX if you drive a 2025 or newer heavy-duty.
Will it work if my Ram has a manual rearview mirror?
The standard FitCamX Ram units take power from the auto-dimming rearview mirror. A truck with a basic manual mirror may not have that connector, so contact FitCamX with your trim before ordering.
Is the STARVIS 2 version worth the extra $100?
If you drive a lot at night or want to hardwire for parking surveillance, it's the stronger camera: a Sony IMX678 sensor, HDR on front and rear, 5.8GHz WiFi and time-lapse parking mode. For most owners the standard 4K front-only at $189 is the better value, and it has more than 200 owner reviews while STARVIS 2 is brand-new.
Does it record while the truck is parked?
Only with a hardwired installation. Both versions need a fuse-box hardwire cable for parking mode, bought separately. The standard unit records when it detects a collision; the STARVIS 2 unit adds time-lapse and motion-detection parking modes.
How long does installation take?
Owners report anywhere from under 10 minutes to about 30 minutes for the front camera on newer trucks, and one owner installed front and rear on a 2019–2024 truck in five minutes. Routing the rear-camera cable is the part owners find hardest, especially on older trucks.

Final Verdict

The bottom line · Identify the cover, then pick the version

For Ram owners, the camera is the easy part — every generation gets the same 4K FitCamX platform at the same price. The work is matching the cover: Model A, B or C on a 2019–2024, hole or no hole on a 2013–2018, and nothing to check on a 2025–2027 Ram 1500. Confirm your truck has an auto-dimming mirror, then choose standard 4K front-only at $189 for the best value, or STARVIS 2 at $289 if night video and parking surveillance matter most.
